The world has a glorious array of nude beaches to choose from, but you may not know which beaches embrace nudity and which aren’t quite as open to the “suns out, buns out” way of life. So, in the spirit of summer, we created this handy travel guide for open-minded adults looking to travel abroad for some fun in the sun, without even the skimpiest tan lines!
5 Black’s Beach, La Jolla, California
Are you looking for a sexy nude beach within the continental United States? Black’s Beach has been the Golden State’s best nude beach for more than 50 years and was once the only legal nude beach in the entire United States. Set perfectly beneath the towering cliffs of Torrey Pines, this area is blessed with great surf waves and beautiful weather year-round. Located near downtown San Diego, it’s a great place to get naked on vacation.
4 Buhne 16, Sylt, Germany
Germany may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of nude beaches, but this one is worth a second look. Located on a North Sea island, where the average water temperature in summer is a chilly 17°C (63°F), Buhne 16 is the best spot for nude sunbathing on the German coast. So chill in the famously blue and white striped wicker beach chairs, or brave the chilly waters if you dare to show off your shrinkage!
3 Red Beach, Crete, Greece
Crete is the hotspot for nude sunbathing on the Greek isles. Named after the red sands and cliffs, Red Beach (or Kokkini Ammos as the locals call it) is a 20-minute hike from the village of Matala. First discovered by a hippie community from Europe in the 1960s, Red Beach now hosts a perfect little bar named Yiannis that makes the very best mojitos.
2 Negril, Jamaica
If you’ve been to Hedonism, you’ve been to Negril. More than just a nude beach destination, Negril hosts some of the wildest swinger weekends and sex circuit party events every year. So get comfortable with yourself and others in the gorgeous tropics of the Caribbean islands and get your groove back for good.
1 Ibiza
Yes we know, Ibiza isn’t a beach exactly, but as the world’s clothing-optional capital, it deserves to be at the top of our list. Every Beach in Ibiza is a nude beach, and most of the streets and restaurants are pretty much clothing optional. Not to mention, the sites you’ll see there on an everyday basis, from its azure waters to its fantastic resort culture, are spectacular. So pack a bikini… or don’t when you’re off to visit Ibiza.
